Article Review Why Sustainable Tourism Must Address...
Sustainable Tourism and Climate Change Introduction This paper reviews Daniel Scotts article in the Journal of Sustainable Times Why sustainable tourism must address climate change. Objectives Scott takes issue with a previous article written by David Weaver in the Journal of Sustainable Times. According to Scotts narrative, Weaver presented several interrelated issues that essentially dispute some of the proven science of climate change. Climate change studies are valid and the research that has gone into climate change is empirical and not to be discredited, Scott asserts. Weaver also claimed that sustainable tourism is being dominated at least rhetorically by the issue of climate change, Scott points out on page 17. Weavers position that tourisms expanding engagement with climate change is not conducive to sustainability within the tourism industry (Scott, 2011, p. 17) is bothersome to Scott, and hence, Scott insists, Weavers assertions need to be confronted, challenged, and where appropriate, rebuked. Theory There is no specific theoretical framework per se in Scotts peer-reviewed piece, albeit the author is a firm believer in the science that has been presented on climate change, and he believes that any retreat from engagement with climate change within the tourism industry could be to the detriment of tourisms campaign to become sustainable. The assumption that Weaver made in his previous article is that tourism is perhaps over-reacting to theShow MoreRelatedDubais Political and Economic Development: Essay38738 Words à |à 155 PagesMAY 10,2005 Table of Contents I Persian Gulf Development Literature Oil Curse Literature Arab and Islamic Factors Regional Ovemiew and Historical Background Dubais Development History I1 PI1 Explaining Dubai9sDevelopment Outcome Why Not Other Gulf States? My Thoughts On What Culture Truly Essay - 1498 Words
My thoughts on what culture truly is have changed tremendously after taking Intro to Sociology. My thinking of my own and others has changed since my first PVR 1. In my first PVR, I included pictures of two sweatshirts which represented my volleyball team and my current school, a cross, a box of Macaroni and Cheese, tennis shoes, a picture of my family, an EOS chap stick, and sunglasses. The way I look at my culture now is completely different. Now, I do not use items at all to define my culture. Objects have nothing to do with it. When I began this semester, I thought of culture as being where someone was born, their ethnicity, their language, and maybe even what they do for a living. Although I believe these may still be a part of a culture, they are not the most important aspect of what culture is. Culture is who we are. Culture is our family, our friends, our values, where we are born, the activities we decide to be a part of, what we decide to do in difficult situation, it is wh o we are. Culture is not taught, it is who we become. This is exactly what my picture conveys. We learn through experience who we are and therefore, what our culture is. I thought my culture was just my family and things I enjoyed doing. Then I thought it was thinking about nature and the people who are important to me. I now realize it is all of that together. It is learning one thing at a time. I will continue to realize more and more what my culture is the more I dive into research. Moving With Times
Question: Discuss about the Moving With Times. Answer: Introduction: The article is an Interview that has been covered by Stuart Sumner in conversation with Christine Scott, Chief Product and Information Officer at Financial Times. The website of Financial Times (FT) is being redesigned and the product has been termed as Project Next. The website of FT was designed eight years back and has not seen transformation in terms of the design and functionalities. It was therefore extremely essential to re-design the site with the advancements in the technology. The new site has a lot many new components and features in terms of moving the infrastructure on cloud, enhanced data capabilities, easier options for the data scientists for the execution of the operations, social media integration, introduction of payment systems and easy subscription options, addition of new sections such as My FT, ability to handle increased user traffic and various other technically advanced options in terms of customer expectations, functional and non-functional abilities. The decision taken by Christina and her team is an excellent step to engage enhanced customer base with the Financial Times website and also to improve the website rankings. Also, the incorporation of technically advanced features will enable the site to offer better quality services to the customers. However, there will be a few areas of concerns that will be introduced with the re-designing of the site in terms of management of the changes and increased security threats and attacks that may be executed by the attackers on the site (Sumner, 2015). Comparison of Old and New Site There have been a number of enhancements in the new site of FT as compared to the older site in terms of the usability of the same. The newer website is excellently organized in terms of the layout and the sections that are present on the same. Also, the layout has been kept consistent all throughout. The re-designed web site also includes enhanced accessibility and can be accessed from desktop as well as mobile devices for improved usability for the customers. There are a number of new functionalities and features that are now added to the web site. There is a section called My FT that has been added in which the users can add their preferred sections and news alerts they would like to receive. Social media integration is a mandatory feature in the current scenario and it has been added on the new site. Users would be allowed to view tweets that are posted, post a news piece on their social accounts and likewise. Users would also be able to make the payments from varied payment options for the subscriptions online and from the mobile devices as well. The data warehouse and data capabilities have been collaborated with Amazon leading to easier data management for the data scientists along with the tools such as Birst. The site will also be able to handle increased user traffic with enhanced performance (Ft, 2016). The advantages of the re-designing of the web site include better website rankings, increased market shares, good customer feedback, better quality services and easier operations and management for the employees. There will also be a few disadvantages associated with the new site in terms of the security concerns and the management of the changes for the users and the employees. References Ft,. (2016).
